FAQ
Do I need to be fluent in te reo or tikanga Māori to apply?
You don’t need to be fluent in te reo or tikanga Māori for most roles, and there’s heaps of opportunities to learn along the way.
Do I need to be Māori to work here?
You need to have a willingness to learn and immerse yourself in Māori culture, but you don’t have to be Māori to work here.

Explore our programmes
Could your mātauranga make a difference in the lives of tauira? Te Wānanga o Aotearoa offers a wide range of programmes at our 80 locations across the motu.
You don't neccessarily need a formal teaching qualification to apply. For the right candidate in certain areas of mātauranga, we will provide training for any teaching skills needed.

Life balance
No matter how important our mahi, whānau comes first. All permanent employees receive four extra leave days each year to celebrate Matariki and the Christmas/New Year season.

Permanent kaimahi (0.5FTE or higher) receive free health and life insurance, including pre-existing conditions. Access our award-winning Tau Ora programmes that encourage wellbeing and inclusion.

Kaupapa Māori
As a proudly indigenous tertiary educator, ‘whānau transformation through education’ is our vision. We have our strong presence within cultural events, with special leave available for kaimahi involved in certain cultural or sporting kaupapa.
